It's a rare Memorial Weekend when we don't escape to the mountains, but this year we were both so tired all we wanted to do was stay at home. I'm not sure I've ever spent four whole days at home at one time, and I loved it. Although Denver had the coldest Memorial Day weekend I've experienced in my 20 years here (including two drizzly days in the low 50's, which I loved), I had a delightful four days off, catching up on much-needed sleep, buying and planting flowers all around the yards, staring for hours at my most gorgeous peonies, and bringing them into the house where the smell kept me intoxicated for four days. The peonies and deep purple iris, also in full bloom, were a perfect addition to the sunflowers I bought nearly two weeks ago. I so love fresh flowers - I can never have enough of them around me, though I came close this past weekend.
After days of fussing and fidgeting and bopping in and out, on Monday another Mama Finch began sitting in the basket nest. I'm certain it is a different finch couple as Papa's belly is neither as red, nor his song as sweet and piercing as the other finch. Dave peeked into the nest and there was one tiny white egg inside. Our fingers are crossed that we will have another batch of finch babies chirping and flying off within the next three weeks.
And of course we spent much quality time with Phenix the Wonder Cat, who continues to thrive and stay plump and alert.
